Review - MAKEUP BY MARIO SurrealSkin Liquid Foundation

When I started dabbling around in makeup back when I was in middle school, powder products were the thing to use. While liquid foundation was around, powder was still much more popular than it is now. I used the Bare Minerals Loose Powder Foundation for years. Once in a while I would try out a liquid foundation for special occasions, but I always hated how it looked. I never knew if I should apply it with a brush, a beauty blender, or my bare hands. I specifically remember going to homecoming one year with cakey, poorly-blended liquid foundation slathered all over my face. What a jump scare. 

When makeup started going insanely viral on TikTok, I came across my fair share of liquid foundations on my for you page. This convinced me to face my fears and give liquid foundation a chance. After all, my makeup skills had significantly improved since sophomore year of high school.

As someone who prefers a more natural look for everyday wear, I have tried out numerous light coverage foundations and skin tints. While I have found a few that I like better for everyday use, the MAKEUP BY MARIO SurrealSkin foundation is genuinely the best liquid foundation I've tried yet.

This foundation kept popping up on my for you page on TikTok, so I eventually gave in and ran to Sephora to try it out for myself. I have not looked back since.

The main reason I was hesitant to try this product was due to the price point. While there are definitely some more expensive foundations on the market, this one comes in at a decently-hefty $42 at Sephora and on the MAKEUP BY MARIO website. While this may be considered over budget for many people, I do find the price point of the product somewhat justifiable. 

It is a high quality, long-wearing product that creates a beautiful natural radiance on the skin. This is a medium coverage foundation, but it is buildable to create a more full coverage look. On days that I want to try a little harder on my appearance and look less like I rolled right out of bed, this foundation can still provide me with a light and natural look. For more special occasions, I will use a bit more product as a base for full glam. 

 
Additionally, the product itself lasts a long time. While I did have repurchase fairly quickly, it was simply because I forgot the foundation at home (silly me!) and I desperately needed it while I was at school. I now own two of these beauties and both of them get used frequently. 

As a dry skin girlie, this foundation is perfect for me. If you also struggle with dryness and want to create makeup looks that still slay the game, the Mario foundation is a must for you too. It is incredibly hydrating while still feeling lightweight on the skin and providing a medium-full coverage look.

One important aspect of this product that I just had to point out is the unbelievable shade range. It comes in 30 shades. Yes, you read that right, 30 shades! With a variety of shades for each undertone and skin color, there seems to be a shade match for everyone.
