Review - e.l.f. Cosmetics Halo Glow Contour Beauty Wand
We all love a good snatched contour, but it's often somewhat difficult to find the perfect one. If it's too light, you risk looking like a ghost. If it's too much, you risk looking like you rolled around in mud. It requires a lot of trial and error to find one you love.
During this process (because I just recently found one I'm obsessed with... stay tuned for that), I tried out the relatively new e.l.f. Cosmetics Halo Glow Contour Beauty Wand. It's definitely a keeper, but she's not quite at the top of my list.
This product was released when the Charlotte Tilbury contour wands became all the craze on social media. All the TikTok girlies were raving about this product, but it is a little higher in price than a lot of individuals may be willing to spend. That's when. e.l.f. did what it does best- they created a dupe that blew the original out of the water.
Personally, I have not yet tried the Charlotte Tilbury contour wand or the other dupe from Tarte, so this review has no comparison to these competitors.
Although I do use the e.l.f. wand occasionally, it is not my go to. I have two main issues with the product- it's application and its shade options.
The applicator itself is fun and easy to use; it's one of those satisfying ones where the product seeps out the top of the wand. But my gosh, whoever made it did a terrible job. Unless you want to look like you showered in mud, you only need to use a very very small amount of product. A little goes a very long way here, and the applicator does not understand that a small squeeze should be a small squeeze. The product goes on in dots on the face. If you put more than 2 dots on your cheeks or forehead, it will not end well.
A major setback of this product is the shade range. They are labeled by skin tone with 5 shades ranging from "Fair/Light" to "Deep/Rich." As a pale queen myself, I picked up the lightest shade, which has an oddly gray undertone. I prefer a warmer undertone to my contour, but the next shade up seems too dark for my skin tone. I think the Fair/Light shade looks fine on me once I have a warmer-toned bronzer on top. Of course, I am unsure about the other shades and skin tones. It is definitely possible that those with a different skin tone may love the shades as they are. In my opinion, this product could be majorly improved if e.l.f. produced 2-3 shades for each skin tone.
Once the product is applied and has some bronzer over top of it, it is overall a very beautiful contour. It does the jobs of sculpting the face and adding dimension very well.
This is definitely an amazing contour for its unbeatable price of $9. It is available at Ulta Beauty, Target, at some drug stores, and on the e.l.f. Cosmetics website. If you're on the hunt for a new contour that won't break the bank, pick this one up on your next Target run. If you're really feeling like a drug store splurge, check out the blush and highlighter wands as well. Just remember- a little goes a long way.
I have the blush wand from e.l.f. and it's my favorite thing ever. I love the glowy look it gives to my face and how long wear it is! It's definitely worth the money, even though it's very cheap!
